New Delhi: Top authorities in the health ministry stated that COVID-19 is advancing towards an endemic stage in India despite the fact that 7,830 new cases were reported on Wednesday, the biggest number in more than seven months.

Officials stated that despite an increase in COVID-19 instances, hospitalization rates are modest and are predicted to stay that way. The death toll has gone up to 5,31,016 with 16 new fatalities reported from Delhi (2), Punjab (2), Himachal Pradesh (2), Gujarat (1), Haryana (1), Maharashtra (1), Tamil Nadu (1), Uttar Pradesh (1), and Kerala (5).

According to representatives from the health ministry, instances may continue to increase for the ensuing 10 to 12 days before starting to decline. As the virus becomes endemic, it generates a large number of variants.

Over 1,000 sub-lineages, including XBB, have been ascribed to Omicron since its identification in 2021. XBB.1.16 is increasing the number of instances, but the rate of hospitalizations has remained low. They also noted that the deaths caused by the new variant are only among patients who have major comorbidities.
