Pune: On Friday, Mr. Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India, stated that doses of Covovax will arrive in major cities in four to five days, while a Bharat Biotech representative reaffirmed that the company was prepared to restart the production of Covaxin. Mr. Poonawalla noted that metro cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad will likely receive sufficient supplies of Covovax within a week.

He noted that the Bharat Biotech-manufactured vaccine, INCOVACC, is still available in the cities. However, according to CoWIN, only two hospitals each in Pune and Mumbai, and one each in Hyderabad and Bengaluru offered Covovax as an adult booster.

On CoWIN, the option to take Covovax as a booster is available, although beneficiaries in several big cities are currently unsuccessfully searching for a Covovax shot as a precautionary dose. In many Indian districts, there is no immunization available as an adult booster or otherwise. Mr. Vinay Aravind, a wedding photographer from Chennai, noted that the city has no vaccine of any kind, as per CoWIN. He added that he called several hospitals, and they all said that there was no stock.

Since SII recently revealed Covovaxs availability on social media, it represents a feasible answer in the current situation, as other vaccine choices are not widely available.
