Biotechnology Company Biocon said on Friday that its Biocon Biologics factory in Bengaluru has received EU GMP clearance for a biosimilar product. The facility of Biocon Biologics has earned a certificate of GMP compliance for Bevacizumab from the official European inspection body, Irelands Health Products Regulatory body (HPRA).

Bevacizumab is used to treat a variety of malignancies as well as specific eye ailment.

According to a company representative, the license confirms Biocon Biologics compliance with the highest international regulatory standards. It allows the company to continue meeting the requirements of patients in the EU.

The representative further said that Biocon Biologics is a Biocon Ltd. subsidiary. The B3 facility, one of Indias largest monoclonal antibody (mAb) manufacturing facilities, had received EU GMP Certification for manufacturing biosimilar Trastuzumab last year.
