Five more students exhibited similar symptoms a day after nine students from a government girls’ seniorsecondary school in Machhiwara, Ludhiana, and reported adverse effects after receiving tetanus vaccinationat school.

A team of healthcare workers visited the school as part of the weekly immunization program.Approximately 175 pupils were vaccinated as part of the initiative. Following the injections, some of themexperienced dizziness and weakness.

The health experts stated that, after nine female students experienced adverse effects on Thursday, fiveadditional pupils who were administered the vaccination on Thursday experienced similar adverse effects onFriday. They further stated that the pupils were placed under monitoring at the Machhiwara CommunityHealth Centre (CHC).

Dr. Rishabh Dutt, a child specialist at CHC Machhiwara, said that of the approximately 175 female studentswho received the tetanus vaccine as part of the weekly vaccine drive on Thursday, nine experienced minorside effects on the same day, and five experienced symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and headache onFriday. He stated that all the students were stable and would be discharged from the hospital.According to health officials, district immunization officer Dr. Manisha Khanna also visited Machhiwara toassess the situation.

Officials stated on Thursday that vaccination samples will be forwarded to the state health department andthe World Health Organization in accordance with policy.
