The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has directed all insurance companies to include the cost of surrogacy in their health insurance policies. The regulatory body noted that this move was taken to bring relief to people who use surrogacy to have children.

According to the IRDAI order, all health insurance policies must cover the expense of "infertility treatment, including surrogacy." This implies that health insurance coverage will now cover surrogacy-related medical expenditures, such as the cost of medical treatment for the surrogate mother, birth, and postnatal care.

Mr. Amit Goel, Director, and Principal Officer of Raghnall Insurance Brokers stated that it is important for insurers and insurance companies to recognize the increasing demand for surrogacy and fertility treatments.

Additionally, he further stated that the goal of his company is to safeguard all parties involved in the surrogacy process from any unanticipated medical difficulties that may develop throughout pregnancy and post-partum care.
