A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine reported a 36% decrease in the risk of death from flu or pneumonia by engaging in different cardiovascular exercises.

A 48 percent lower chance of mortality from flu or pneumonia was reported by the National Health Interview Survey, who conducted from 1998 to 2018 among people who reached both the necessary cardiovascular and muscle-strengthening criteria.

Participants who solely met the aerobic exercise goal had a 36% reduced risk. Aerobic physical activity of 10-149, 150-300, and 301-600 minutes per week was related to a 21, 41, and 50% decreased risk, respectively.

However, researchers found no additional advantages in people who exercised more than 600 minutes weekly. Regarding muscle-strengthening exercises, attaining the weekly objective of two sessions was associated with a 47-percent decreased risk compared to less than two weekly sessions. Interestingly, doing seven or more weekly sessions resulted in a 41% increased risk, suggesting that excessive muscle training might be hazardous. Cardiovascular or aerobic exercises include brisk walking, swimming, jogging, and stair climbing. Weight lifting, resistance band workouts, squats, lunges, push-ups, and even gardening may all be used to build muscle.

Over a nine-year period, 81,431 participants died, including 1,516 fatalities caused by flu and pneumonia.

Factors that had a significant impact the outcomes included sociodemographic and lifestyle characteristics, underlying health issues, and whether or not patients had gotten flu and pneumonia vaccines.
