An office memo published on Friday stated that the AIIMS administration has established a committee that will be tasked with ensuring that its Delhi campus is fully Wi-Fi equipped. It was noted that the AIIMS Delhi campus needed secure Wi-Fi connectivity around-the-clock for patient care, academic, and research operations.

According to Dr. M. Srinivas, only new buildings now have Wi-Fi capabilities, and the campus has very poor Wi-Fi coverage, which is exceedingly uncomfortable for patients, employees, and visitors alike.

The memorandum stated that, the lack of a central Wi-Fi network has caused many departments to build up their own Wi-Fi networks to help with day-to-day operations, making it challenging to centrally monitor the networks for any online threats. The entire AllMS New Delhi campus should be Wi-Fi enabled in accordance with the international best practices used by various medical universities for patient care, teaching, research, good governance, and for the optimal deployment of the Integrated Medical University Information System (IMUIS). 

Strong Wi-Fi connectivity will also help implement eCasualty and elCU, allow easy access to eLibrary, etc., and help seamlessly share data and files on a secure network across AIIMS, it added. 

The memo further stated that a five-person team will provide an Expression of Interest (EOI) by June 15 in order to create a Wi-Fi network throughout the entire campus. Interested companies can survey the campus and submit their gap analysis report and solution design by July 15. 

The memo further stated that, the committee  would also look into ways to expand Wi-Fi access on campus with other mobile and broadband internet service providers, using the regions existing fibre networks, and ensure that the best options are implemented as soon as possible.
