The health department has begun discussions with private hospitals to develop guidelines for the Right to Health (RTH) Act. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) state chapter has already given some of its suggestions on new RTH norms.

Dr. Sunil Chugh, president of the IMA (Rajasthan section), revealed that two meetings have already taken place with the government and that the process is ongoing. He explained that more meetings are being planned to discuss the definition of an emergency as well as how a patient should be shifted to another hospital in different situations.

He explained that they are also discussing other factors, such as who will operate the ambulances for their transportation and what can be done if there are no beds available in the hospital where the patient needs to be shifted.

The private hospitals and physicians are ensuring that the regulations for the RTH Act are established in accordance with the terms of the MoU struck by the private hospitals and the state government on April 4 to terminate the 17-day strike opposing the RTH Act.
