A new study published in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, Part B. demonstrated the risks associated with using the sugar substitute sucralose. The researchers recommended that people stop using it and that the governments regulate it more strictly.

Splenda is the brand name for the sucralose product, a component of packaged meals and drinks.

Sucralose-6-acetate was applied to human blood cells and gastrointestinal tissue during a series of laboratory studies by the researchers. The findings support prior research that connected Sucralose to issues with gut health.

The scientists discovered that Sucralose damages DNA, increasing the risk of disease and also connected to the leaky gut syndrome, characterized by a worn-down and permeable intestinal lining. Some symptoms are burning, uncomfortable digestion, diarrhea, gas, and bloating.

Genotoxic substances are those that harm DNA. Sucralose, when consumed, causes the body to produce sucralose-6-acetate, which a recent study has revealed to be genotoxic. Additionally, the researchers discovered trace concentrations of sucralose-6-acetate in commercially available goods that are so high that they would be beyond the safety limits now permitted in Europe.

The FDA analyzed more than 110 studies, including investigations on the neurological and reproductive systems, carcinogenicity, and metabolism, and human clinical trials to address metabolism and its effects on diabetic patients. These studies were conducted to find potential hazardous effects.

Experts stated that Sucraloses safety and regulatory status are due for review, and as there is growing evidence that it poses serious hazards, they advise people to avoid from anything that contain Sucralose.
