Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: To promote cost-effective treatments and improve accessibility, doctors in government hospitals have been mandated to issue prescriptions using generic names.

On Sunday, these orders were issued by Dr. Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary for Medical Health. He also advised hospital managers to undertake frequent inspections, supervise cleanliness, and monitor hygiene practices to guarantee a healthy atmosphere.

The order issued by the principal secretary also directed the officials to ensure that there is adequate staff in the emergency area, along with sufficient arrangements including ambulances, wheelchairs, stretchers, and essential supplies. The directive emphasized that regular checks should be carried out on food quality in the IPD ward and that feedback from patients and their attendants should be recorded.

Furthermore, equipment functionality should be frequently examined and reported in the instructions supplied. Information about equipment functioning will be distributed via the Care Tool, an internal government tool used by doctors and paramedics to report any equipment that has been inactive for an extended length of time.

The directive also noted that unless there is a valid reason, medicines available in the district`s drug warehouse should reach the hospital and be made available to the patients. Additionally, the availability of drugs should be indicated on hospital sign boards.

Furthermore, chief medical superintendents are accountable for ensuring that CCTV cameras work properly at all times and that the SOP is followed.
