Hospitals in Noida and Ghaziabad are continuously reporting 150-200 cases of dehydration, diarrhea, and other heat-related illnesses from the last 15 days as the temperature has been hovering around the 40-degree mark.

Patients with these illnesses are swarming the district hospitals OPDs. According to Dr. Rajpal Singh of MMG Hospital, of the 1,000 patients that visit the OPD daily, 20 to 25 percent of those cases are heat-related. In hot and muggy conditions, microbial activity increases and can result in severe gastroenteritis and stomach illnesses. He advised drinking 2 to 2.5 liters of liquids daily and avoiding prolonged sun exposure by dressing in long sleeves.

A doctor from Noidas Sector 30 district hospital stated that most patients who attend the OPDs there have stomach aches and vomiting symptoms. Additionally, counselors have been stationed at the hospitals to inform patients about preventive measures. Over 100 individuals affected by the heat are being treated at the hospital.

Several facilities are being undertaken to prevent the increasing cases of heat stroke. Along with the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), different industries, and offices, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has created an action plan to avoid occurrences of heat stroke. Under its provisions, cold rooms would be made available in all public buildings and community health services. In hospitals lacking air conditioning, provisions will be made for coolers and fans. RWAs are expected to set up coolers and water facilities in community centers.
