The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced new guidelines for Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023. The new guidelines are approved by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the NMC.
The new guideline aims to bring uniformity to MBBS courses by introducing a standardized academic calendar outlining the commencement of each course component and the scheduled examination dates.
According to new rules, the admission process for MBBS courses must commence on August 1 and conclude by August 30, without exceptions. NMC has strictly instructed Universities to only register students admitted within this specified date.
Additionally, the NMC has made changes by discontinuing supplementary batches for students who fail their annual examinations. The 83-page guidelines stated that supplementary examinations and their results should be announced within 3-6 weeks after declaring the main examination results for the professional year.
The NMC has removed the provision for supplementary batches. Hence, if a candidate fails the supplementary examination for the first year of MBBS, they will be obliged to join the batch of the next academic year.
