India's First Transgender OPD Inaugurated at Delhi's RML Hospital

On Monday, in a momentous stride toward inclusivity and improved healthcare accessibility, Delhis Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital proudly inaugurated Indias first Transgender Outpatient Department (OPD). Dr. Ajay Shukla, Director of RML Hospital, addressed the gathering and drew attention to the unique challenges faced by transgender individuals when seeking medical care. 

He stated that transgender individuals faced numerous difficulties accessing services at the hospital. He added that a hallmark of this pioneering initiative is providing a dedicated restroom facility exclusively designed for transgender patients within the hospital premises. This thoughtfully designed restroom aims to ensure that transgender individuals feel comfortable and encounter no obstacles during their visits to the hospital.

 

Transgender individuals who attended the inauguration expressed their delight and gratitude for this ground-breaking step. Members of the transgender community shared their sentiments and added that they are overjoyed with this initiative.
