The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a stern warning to medical colleges nationwide following a surge in the receipt of counterfeit letters of recognition. An official notice released by the NMC stated that it has come to the notice of the PGMEB and NMC that fake/forged letters of Recognition under the forged signature of Dr. Vijay Oza, President PGMEB, have been claimed to be received by a few medical colleges.
The cautionary statement from the NMC emphasized that authentic letters of recognition are exclusively dispatched through a dedicated email and speed post. The commission has explicitly advised medical colleges to refrain from entertaining or relying on letters received from any other sources to avoid falling prey to such deceptive tactics.
The notice clarified the standard procedure followed by NMC, stating that all the letters of Recognition/Renewal of Recognition are sent through a dedicated email, and dispatch of the letter(s) is through speed post. All the stakeholders, including Medical Colleges, are advised not to fall into the trap of any such fake letter(s) of Recognition/Renewal of Recognition if the same is not received through the dedicated email from PGMEB, NMC, or by post from NMC.
In case of any doubt, the same may be confirmed by PGMEB, NMC. Previously, the commission had already cautioned stakeholders about circulating counterfeit recognition letters. In September, the NMC warned about the proliferation of fake permission letters distributed to medical colleges in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
