A study published in the American Heart Journal aimed at describing provoking factors, cardiac biomarker profiles, treatment patterns, and clinical outcomes of patients with type 2 myocardial infarction. The results demonstrated that type 2 myocardial infarctions were relatively more prevalent in the first month after acute coronary syndrome. They were marked by the presence of triggers and infrequent use of an invasive strategy. The most common potential provoking factors were tachyarrhythmias, anemia/bleeding, hypotension/shock, and hypertensive emergencies. In addition, they were associated with a high risk of mortality.
