Topical therapy is a cornerstone in acne treatment, with topical retinoids like tretinoin, tazarotene, and adapalene recommended as first-line options for managing mild to moderate acne. Despite their efficacy, these medications can sometimes lead to cutaneous irritations, necessitating the use of dermocosmetics to mitigate side effects and enhance treatment adherence. A recent 8-week trial compared the efficacy and tolerability of a moisturizer containing ceramides and niacinamide (CCM) with a hydrophilic cream when used alongside topical anti-acne treatment in mild to moderate acne vulgaris. The trial included 40 patients receiving topical anti-acne medications (5% benzoyl peroxide and 0.1% adapalene gel), who were randomized to apply either CCM or a hydrophilic cream.

This study proves that applying a moisturizer containing ceramides and niacinamide, alongside anti-acne medication, significantly improves acne lesions and reduces skin irritations. These results contribute to achieving a satisfactory treatment outcome for individuals with mild to moderate acne vulgaris.
