Doctors are often called upon to issue a medical certificate in connection with medical care, signed by them in their professional capacity, at the request of patients or a court order. After the patient recovers, the physician must also issue a “fit to work” certificate. As per the Collins’ online dictionary, a medical certificate is “a document stating the result of a satisfactory medical examination.” A medical certificate may be defined as a written statement from a registered medical practitioner or another medically qualified health care provider which attests to the result of a medical examination of a patient.
