SR Nagar police have initiated a medical negligence investigation against a private hospital following the tragic death of a seven-year-old boy, Mr. Adan Michael, reportedly due to an overdose of anesthesia.
On Wednesday, the boy was admitted to the hospital for surgery after experiencing throat pain while eating. After consultation, the doctors recommended surgery for the patient.
According to the boys parents, complications arose post-administration of anesthesia, which they believe was administered in excessive amounts. Despite efforts by the medical team to revive him, he succumbed to the complications. The parents allege that the hospital staff delayed informing them of their sons death and attempted to attribute the cause to a cardiac issue.
The incident led to a protest by the grieving parents and relatives at the hospital. In response, the doctors reportedly fled the premises. The family subsequently lodged a complaint with the police, who transferred the patient’s body to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are now awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death and to proceed with further legal action against the hospital.
