India has launched the National Medical Register (NMR) Portal, a digital database for MBBS doctors linked with Aadhaar IDs to ensure authenticity. The portal aims to enhance data accuracy and streamline doctor registration across the country.
On August 24, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mr. J.P. Nadda, inaugurated the National Medical Register (NMR) Portal of the National Medical Commission (NMC), which will streamline the registration of MBBS doctors across India. Union Minister of State for Health, Mrs. Anupriya Patel, and Mr. Prataprao Jadhav attended the event virtually.
The NMR, mandated by the NMC Act 2019, will serve as a comprehensive and dynamic electronic database of all allopathic doctors in India. The portal is linked with doctors Aadhaar IDs to ensure authenticity and includes details like names, addresses, and qualifications.
Mr. Nadda lauded the NMC and National Health Authority (NHA) for their efforts, noting that the NMR aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of a digitally robust healthcare system. He emphasized the role of State Medical Councils in the registration process, urging them to speed up authentication efforts.
The NMR will enhance data accuracy and transparency, supporting Indias goal of a unified digital health ecosystem.
