The study published in J Assoc Physicians India in 2024 highlights the utility of the HACOR score in predicting non-invasive ventilation (NIV) failure in patients with acute exacerbation of post-tuberculosis obstructive airways disease (post-TB-OAD). The HACOR score showed high specificity and negative predictive value, making it a reliable tool for forecasting NIV failure. Patients with a HACOR score greater than 5 should be monitored more frequently. Serial assessments of the HACOR score can help gauge NIV treatment effectiveness, with increasing scores potentially indicating an imminent risk of NIV failure.
