Children younger than 3 years are at an increased risk for complications post-tonsillectomy

Healthy children under age three years undergoing tonsillectomy should be hospitalized for overnight observation after tonsillectomy rather than carrying out the surgery as an outpatient procedure. This is because these children are more prone to develop postoperative complications compared to children who undergo the surgery when they are older, says a study published online March 15, 2018 in JAMA Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery.
