The Supreme Court-appointed National Task Force (NTF) aims to address mental health issues in educational institutions, focusing on preventing suicides and improving student welfare. It will gather public input and submit reports with actionable recommendations within eight months.
The Supreme Court-appointed National Task Force (NTF) has commenced its work, seeking public input on tackling mental health issues in educational institutions. Formed in response to the rising student suicides, particularly at higher education institutions like IIT Delhi, the NTF aims to address mental health concerns and prevent such tragedies. Led by Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, the Task Force comprises experts from various fields, including Dr.Alok Sarin and Prof. Mary E. John, as well as ex-officio members from key government departments.
In its inaugural meeting on March 29, 2025, the NTF outlined plans to explore the root causes of suicides, review existing policies, and engage with stakeholders, including students, parents, and mental health professionals. The Task Force will submit an interim report in four months and a final report in eight months. A dedicated website and social media handle will be launched for public engagement.
