“Delhi became the 35th State/Union Territory to implement the national health insurance scheme, officially joining the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.”

Delhi officially joined the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, becoming the 35th State or Union Territory to implement the national health insurance scheme.

As part of this rollout, all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, regardless of their socio-economic background, became eligible for free health coverage worth $5,820 (Rs 5 lakh) under the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana.

The health coverage included treatment for all pre-existing medical conditions from the beginning.

Additionally, the Delhi government announced an extra top-up of Rs 5 lakh on top of the central governments coverage, according to Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of the Government of NCT Delhi.

This implementation followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the National Health Authority (NHA), under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Delhi.
