Indias healthcare spending is expected to rise to 5% of GDP by 2030, driven by investments and demographic shifts, according to CareEdge. The report calls for sustained efforts to bridge urban-rural gaps and strengthen healthcare infrastructure.
According to a new report by ratings agency CareEdge, Indias healthcare expenditure is projected to increase to 5% of its GDP by 2030, up from 3.2% in 2022. This growth will be driven by rising public and private investments, expanding insurance coverage, and changing demographics.
The report highlighted that healthcare as a sector is undergoing significant transformation, supported by policy reforms, increased medical seats, more hospital beds, and improved insurance access. These developments aim to strengthen access and quality of care across the country.
However, CareEdge emphasized that urban-rural disparities in infrastructure and services persist. To build a resilient system, the agency recommends continued investments across the healthcare value chain and better support for healthcare workers in rural and semi-urban areas.
