A study highlights the potential nutritional benefits of nandrolonedecanoate in predialysis patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), showing promising anabolic effects without compromising renal function.
The study involved 29 predialysis patients with CKD and a glomerular filtration rate between 5 and 30 mL/min, with moderate to severe malnutrition. Over a 3-month period, those treated with nandrolonedecanoate(100mg) experienced a significant increase in lean body mass (LBM) and decreased serum albumin levels without any change in the values of normalized protein catabolic rate, serum lipids, hematocrit, and glomerular filtration rate. Whereas, the conventional treatment group had no alterations in all parameters.Nandrolonedecanoate produced only minor adverse effects reported in a small number of patients.
The study proves that the efficacy of nandrolonedecanoate in increasing LBM is significantly higher than that of conventional treatment of CKD.
