COVID-19 cases are surging in Hong Kong and Singapore, with rising hospitalizations and viral loads indicating active community spread. Authorities urge vaccinations and boosters as the virus spreads despite warmer weather across Asia.
Health authorities in Hong Kong and Singapore have sounded alarms as COVID-19 cases spike, signaling a new wave across Asia. In Hong Kong, the virus activity has reached its highest level in a year, with severe cases and increasing deaths. Over 7 million residents face rising infections, confirmed by higher virus traces in sewage and more hospitalizations.
Singapore reported a 28% jump in estimated cases and a 30% rise in hospitalizations in early May, prompting health officials to resume case updates after nearly a year. Despite the surge, no new, more transmissible variants have been detected.
Authorities urge people, especially high-risk groups, to stay updated with vaccinations and boosters as COVID continues spreading even during warmer months across the region.
