Kerala health officials have reported a hepatitis A outbreak in Ernakulam, with 51 cases detected, mainly in Avoly panchayat. Preventive measures are underway, and residents are advised to exercise caution and maintain good hygiene.
The Kerala Health Department has issued an alert following a surge of hepatitis A cases in Ernakulam district, particularly around Avoly panchayat near Muvattupuzha. Since May 30, the district has reported 51 cases, with Avolycontributing 18 cases alone.
Authorities have stepped up preventive measures, including the chlorination of wells and local water bodies, and have closed a catering unit suspected of being linked to an infection cluster from a function in Nadukkara.
Panchayat President Shelmy Jose confirmed investigations and the discontinuation of the catering service. While health officials emphasize that the situation is under control, District Medical Officer Asha Devi urged residents across Avoly, Manjalloor, and Arakuzha to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols to curb further transmission.
