Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has restricted the manufacture of oxytocin formulations for domestic use from 1st July, 2018 to public sector only vide Gazette No. 279 dated 27th April, 2018. The import of oxytocin formulations has been banned vide Gazette No. 262 dated 24th April, 2018. From 1st July, 2018, no private manufacturers will be allowed to manufacture the drug for domestic use vide Gazette No. 279 dated 27th April, 2018. However, the government has to put on hold by two months its decision to restrict the manufacturing and supply of oxytocin only through the Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (KAPL). Accordingly, this ban is likely to come into effect from 1st September 2018.

Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceutical Ltd (KAPL), a public sector unit (PSU), is the only manufacturer for the drug in the country. KAPL will be the sole supplier to registered hospitals and clinics in both public and private sector. The same order prohibits the retail sale of the oxytocin by chemists and druggists. According to the Public Notice regarding Oxytocin Formulations dated 27th June, 2018 it has been suggested that the registered hospitals and clinics in public and private sector in the country are advised to contact KAPL to place their orders with the company.

In order to ensure that there is no disruption in the supply of oxytocin, we are attaching the list of KAPL Branches and also connecting you to MD KAPL (md@kaplindia.com). We would also be adding you to a whatsapp group connecting you as well as State Representatives to KAPL.
