A randomized double blind trial compared the outcomes of itraconazole therapy with placebo in 50 patients with vaginal candidiasis. One week after treatment statistically significant differences were reported for the itraconazole group in terms of pruritus vaginitis and vulvitis. Moreover mycological evaluation showed negative results in 92 patients in the itraconazole group in comparison to 52 patients in the placebo group seven days after the treatment. Thus itraconazole appears to be a suitable option for treating vaginal candidiasis.
