A new study published in Pharmaceuticals analyzed the potential adverse effects of long-term exposure to polyethylene glycol (PEG)-containing therapies, specifically in children. Here, prescribing information and reporting websites were searched for information about adverse events in children who were administered PEG. The results showed no adverse event patterns attributable to PEG for any of the pharmaceutical products containing PEG, including potential renal, neurological or hepatic adverse events. Hence, the findings indicated that despite substantial exposure to PEG in the pediatric population for several decades, there is no evidence of adverse consequences associated with its use.
