Study shows no benefit of fecal microbiota transplantation in improving IBS symptoms

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) changed gut microbiota in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), but it did not improve symptoms compared with placebo group in a study reported online August 4, 2018 in Gut. These findings suggest that altering the gut microbiota is not enough to obtain clinical improvement in patients with IBS.
