The purpose of a new systematic review published in the International Journal of Preventive Medicine was to assess the safety and efficacy of different nonpharmacological methods in relieving nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP). This systematic review entailed a search from databases including MedLib, Magiran, Iran Medex, SID, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar search engines from 2000 to 2015, focusing on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing complementary medicine for NVP. Articles which scored 3 or higher according to Jadad criteria, were selected; overall, 21 articles were assessed. It was noted that among the studies selected, 10 papers were about ginger, one concerned cardamom, one lemon, and two peppermint aromatherapy. Additionally, six articles related to pericardium 6 (P6) acupressure and one was on KID21 acupressure. The findings revealed that most of these interventions demonstrated a positive effect on reducing NVP. Meanwhile, no adverse effect was reported. From the results, it was inferred that a majority of methods employed were effective in reducing the incidence of NVP, among which ginger and P6 acupressure were deemed more reliable.
