GURUGRAM: Two people were booked for allegedly thrashing and threatening to kill a 46- year-old nephrologist outside his residence in an upscale society in Sector 67 on Monday.

The doctor, who works at Artemis Hospital and has a clinic of his own. An FIR was registered at Sector 65 police station and the probe is on.

Cops said around 8.45pm, Dr Shashidhar Shriniwas, resident of Ansal Esencia on Golf course Road, was returning home from his clinic. The two accused attacked him with sticks when he entered the society, leaving him with a fractured knee. Shriniwas’ wife and neighbours rushed to the spot, but the duo managed to flee.

“ They made no demands, nor did they try to snatch anything. On two earlier occasions, I have felt that I’m being followed. I am scared for my family,” Shriniwas said.

The police suspect it to be an extortion attempt.

The victim received many blunt injuries, including on his left knee which has fractured. He is being treated now in Artemis Hospital. “I am unable to walk. I have been put on bed rest. I want strict action against the accused,” Shriniwas said.

Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered against the two accused under sections 323 (causing hurt), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention) of the IPC at Sector 65 police station.

“We are investigating. It could be a case of extortion. We visited the spot where they thrashed the doctor, but the CCTV there was found to be defunct. We are trying to identify the two accused and they will be arrested at the earliest,” said inspector Satbir Singh, SHO, Sector 65 police station.

On Monday, around 170 doctors of various hospitals including members of Indian Medical Association (IMA), had protested against extortion calls of Rs 50 lakh made to SP Yadav, owner of Pushpanjali Hospital at Gurugram and Rewari in the aftermath of a terror attack in the hospital lobby.
