PCSK9 Inhibitors in Diabetic Dyslipidemia

  1. Despite recent debate, the evidence for the lipid hypothesis still remains strong.
  2. PCSK9 inhibitors are third-line LDL-C lowering agents in the UK. The efficacy is similar in patients with or without type 2 diabetes. No increase in new-onset diabetes is evident at this point.
  3. The FOURIER and ODYSSEY OUTCOMES randomized controlled studies show-lowering of CVD in keeping with the lipid hypothesis.
  4. Outpatient data shows that similar LDL-C reductions (55%) can be seen with both PCSK9 inhibitors - Evolocumab and alirocumab. Considerable variation exists in the LDL-C reduction (21-83%) in our series.
