A doctor in Gujrat was arrested after he performed a Caesarean on a woman under the influence of alcohol. This was the statement the police gave to the BBC.

The baby and the woman both died. A breathalyser test confirmed the doctor being drunk. An investigation is under way to see if the death was caused by complications or due to negligence.

The hospital has formed a committee to investigate the matter. The doctor was a senior doctor of over 15 years who works at the Government run Sonavala Hospital.
