A 34-year-old senior resident doctor with the AIIMS Oncology department allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fourth-floor balcony of his house.

Manish Sharma, who belongs to Rajasthan’s Nagaur, had been staying with another doctor at a flat in Gautam Nagar for the last one year. Initial investigation suggests that the doctor took the step due to marital discord, reported the police. The police also stated that he had an argument with his wife, a senior resident doctor at a Chandigarh hospital, earlier in the day.

The incident took place around 11.20 pm when he was alone at home. Neighbors revealed that they heard a noise and found his body on the porch, near the entrance. He was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre by his friends and neighbors, where he succumbed to injuries while under treatment.

According to the police, Sharma got married about six months ago and his wife would visit him during the weekend. On Tuesday evening, the couple had an argument. The neighbors intervened and sorted things out. One of the neighbors took his wife to their home and asked the doctor to calm down. He allegedly committed suicide when he was alone in his room, reported the police. It is being probed if he had consumed liquor and medicines before taking this step.

Inquest proceedings have been initiated. (Indian Express)
