Private medical practitioners across the state of Karnataka are going on a one-day symbolic protest on January 4 against some bills placed by the Union government.

Extending their support to the Indian Medical Association, the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA) called for a one-day symbolic protest where all working doctors will be wearing a black badge.

Dr Ramesh Somayaji, Joint Secretary, PHANA, stated that all doctors have been asked to participate in the protest against some bills moved by the Union government as they apply to the entire medical fraternity. He also stated that they expect even government doctors to participate in the symbolic protest. He assured that medical services would not be disturbed due to the symbolic protest.

The protest is directed against the following bills: National Consumer Protection Bill 2018; Medical Council of India Amendment Bill 2018; and, National Medical Commission Bill 2017. (New Indian Express)
