It has come to the notice of the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) that after being suspended for wrong practices, medical practitioners continue to work in different states.

Doctors are required to take a no-objection certificate from the MMC before starting practice in another state.

To check such practices, the state medical council has come up with a facility to share doctors’ data online. An official reported that a need was felt to take preventive measures after it was noticed that some suspended doctors continued to practise illegally in other states. After being suspended for involvement in malpractices, doctors started practising illegally in other states, noted the MMC.

MMC president Dr Shivkumar Utture stated that doctors suspended for wrongdoing by the medical council cannot practise illegally in other states now. All state councils will share information internally and the data will appear during registrations and all councils will be alerted about an individual. Hence, it won’t be possible for suspended doctors to work illegally in other states.

The state medical councils have agreed to share information about the suspension of affiliated doctors so that they cannot practise in other states. (Asian Age)
