Delhi: A 68-year-old gynecologist, Dr Madhusudan Chaudhry, has been arrested by Delhi Police a day after the SUV he was driving allegedly hit a motorcycle at the Barapullah flyover on Sunday evening. The woman pillion rider, Nisha (30), died while her husband, Sunny (30), is being treated at the Safdarjung Hospital. Sunny has sustained injuries to his head, chest and right arm.

A case has been registered under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), and 304-A (causing death by negligence) against the doctor, who was arrested and released on bail.

Chaudhry was returning home to Nizamuddin (West) from his nursing home in East Delhi when the accident took place. The police discovered the damaged bike and the SUV, which had been abandoned by its owner, at the spot of the collision.

DCP (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal mentioned that the police staff reached the drain under the flyover, where the woman was lying. She was taken to a hospital in the PCR van, but was declared dead on arrival.

A relative, Sunil Kumar, claimed that some relatives who were following the couple witnessed their motorcycle being hit by the vehicle and the driver misbehaving with passersby before fleeing the scene. (The Indian Express)
