The American Gastroenterological Association AGA has released a clinical practice update on the use of per oral endoscopic myotomy POEM in achalasia published October 6 2017 in the journal Gastroenterology. The recommendations state that if the expertise is available POEM should be considered as primary therapy for patients with type III achalasia.
