Non Eczematous Contact Dermatitis: Underdiagnosed Entity?

  • Most common types of contact dermatitis - Erythema multiforme-like, purpuric, lichenoid, pigmented.
  • Other forms include chemical leucoderma, pustular allergic CD, granulomatous CD.
  • Purpuric CD is polymorphic.
  • Lichenoid CD - acute onset; resolves quickly.
  • Lymphomatoid CD - similar to parapsoriasis and early stage of MF.
  • Patch test reactions are eczematous; sometimes vesicular and bullae.
  • Awareness of types of non eczematous CD is prerequiste to its diagnosis.
  • Suspect in doubt cases.
  • Pigmented CD: macular pigmentation on the sites of contact.
  • Lichenoid CD is noted for nail polish in the form of figurate lesions.
