MOHALI: A joint operation of the special task force (STF), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Mohali police recently led to sealing of a clinic in Mullanpur and arrest of its owner.

Police have registered a case of cheating against the clinic owner, identified as Rampal of Mullanpur, and further investigation has been initiated. The accused was running the clinic illegally from last three years and did not have any relevant degree or diploma to do so.

The raid was conducted as the police suspected that the accused was selling drugs. However, no drugs were recovered from the clinic. He failed to produce any document required to run the clinic.

Mullanpur station house officer (SHO), Inspector Rajesh Asteer, said that the officials from the STF and NCB had received information that the accused was smuggling drugs. A raid was thus conducted at the clinic on Tuesday evening. No narcotic substance was found during the raid; however, it was discovered that the accused did not have any medical degree or diploma.

Asteer added that the accused was asked to produce the required licence, degree or any other documents required to run a clinic, but he failed to produce any. The clinic was thus sealed and he was arrested.

A case under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 465 (punishment for forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against him at Mullanpur police station. (TNN)
