On Monday, four persons have been arrested here for allegedly trying to blackmail and extort money from a Kashmiri doctor who is practicing in Kolkata. A senior police officer said that on Friday the doctor received a call from a Dumdum-based woman who complained of severe chest pain and requested him to visit her home.
The officer said that on reaching the womans residence, the doctor started to check her previous prescriptions but she suddenly hugged him. Shortly, three persons, who claimed to be policemen, rushed into the room and forced the doctor to undress. They took several photographs of the doctor with the woman.
The accused threatened the doctor to pay them Rs 10 lakh or else his pictures would be posted on social media. Therefore, the doctor requested the men to accompany him to his house as he was not carrying a large amount of money. Two of the three men went to doctors home along with him. On reaching his home, the doctor took Rs 5, 15,000 and his wifes jewelry worth around Rs 5 lakh to handover to the two men, but he also managed to inform the police. The police reached at the spot and arrested the two men.
Afterwards, the other accused, including the woman, surrendered at a city court. A police uniform was also recovered from the house of one of the accused. The officer said that all four accused have been granted bail but an investigation into this matter was ongoing.
