On Sunday, parents of a toddler rushed with their child to Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad as the boy swallowed soap, had complained of medical negligence on part of the staff there. They also alleged that the hospital did not have basic drugs and the on-duty doctors could not even draw blood properly.
Hari Prasad, a resident of Asifabad, said that on Sunday, his son who is one and half years old swallowed some Himalaya baby soap while playing. They took him to Niloufer Hospital as two private hospitals declined to give him treatment stating that it was a Medico-Legal Case (MLC). The doctor in the emergency ward asked them to admit their son and said that the soap could lead to other complications.
Hari Prasad said that the doctors also issued instructions that the child should not drink or eat anything for 24 hours as it could aggravate his condition. But when they requested one of the doctors to give their son a saline drip, he said that they should not expect such amenities at Niloufer as it is a government hospital.
Earlier Express had reported about the lack of saline drips in Niloufer Hospital during the dengue epidemic and patients were forced to share IV bottles.
Hari Prasad said that his son was given only one saline drip and had become so weak that he couldn’t even stand properly. Assistant Professor Dr Himabindu of Pediatric Ward IV was very rude when they expressed their concerns.
