A study published in the Medicine journal demonstrated that sarcopenia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with increased age, increased trunk fat mass and increased free thyroxine level. On the other hand, regular exercise, female gender, metformin intake, high body mass index and increased trunk skeletal muscle mass are related to lower risk of sarcopenia.
