On Tuesday, a 50-year-old doctor was arrested for apparently sexually harassing and pestering a lab technician in the western suburb of Bandra, Mumbai.

A police official said that Dr Akil Khan was detained after a complaint filed by a 27-year-old woman, who alleged that the alleged was pestering her to keep physical relations with him.

According to the victim’s statement given to the Bandra police, she said that she had met Khan in 2015 while working as a lab technician and had to quit her job as the accused was annoying her to keep sexual relations with him.

The official said that the victim alleged that Khan was irritating and following her for the last six years and prevented her to work anywhere else.

The official also said that a case under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code is registered against Dr. Khan and he will be produced in court on Wednesday.
