Maharashtra & Tamil Nadu spikes COVID-19 cases on Tuesday as India crosses 1600 mark

On Tuesday, 315 new coronavirus cases were reported in India with a huge surge in fresh cases by 82 in Maharashtra and 57 in Tamil Nadu, taking the total number of cases in India to 1,618. The number of deaths count has reached to 52 so far.

Almost 626 new cases have been reported in the last 3 days, which accounts for nearly 40% of all cases till now.

Delhi has become one of the worst affected states with two major hotspots, Nizamuddin and Dilshad Garden area. It has confirmed 23 new cases taking the total count to 120. This doesn’t include any new case of coronavirus among the people taken out from Nizamuddin mosque, as their test reports are still awaiting.

The Delhi government said that from the 23 fresh cases, 8 had travel history, 7 come in contact with infected people and the details of remaining 8 were under investigation. Sources have stated that the Delhi count might increase in the coming days as 441 people out of 1,548 follower’s members of Tablighi Jamaat, who were taken out from the mosque are highly symptomatic of coronavirus infection.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra has recorded 302 coronavirus cases. The state has reported 2 more deaths, one from Mumbai and the other from Palghar, taking the total count to 12.

Due to infections linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation earlier in the month, Tamil Nadu’s count of coronavirus cases doubled in a single day, from 67 to 124 on Tuesday. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka has joined Maharashtra and Kerala in registering more than 100 cases till now.

In Maharashtra, 59 cases were from Mumbai, 13 from Mumbai Metropolitan Region, 5 from Pune, 3 from Ahmednagar and 2 from Buldhana. With 151 coronavirus cases, Mumbai is on the top of the state list, which is followed by 48 cases in Pune and 25 cases in Sangli.

Jharkhand and Assam which remained untouched from the coronavirus crisis till now, has reported their 1st cases. A Malaysian woman, aged 22, was found staying at Badi Masjid at Hindipri locality, Ranchi as part of Tablighi Jamaat group. She tested positive for the novel COVID-19.

A 52-year-old man admitted to Assam’s Silchar Medical College in Assam tested positive for the COVID-19. He is a cancer patient and had recently returned from Delhi. State authorities said that the man is suspected to have attended the religious congregation at Tablighi Jamaat.

On Tuesday, 17 patients tested positive for coronavirus in Indore. 19 more patient tested positive, as Madhya Pradesh’s total cases reached to 66 on Tuesday. Officials said that Indore alone accounts for almost 70% of MP’s count, Total 5 coronavirus deaths are confirmed in the states.

West Bengal reported 3 more deaths and 15 new coronavirus cases. The death count in the state has reached to 5.

A 35-year-old man from Gopalganj, north Bihar tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday, with the total number of 16 confirmed cases in the state.

Gujarat reported 6 new cases of coronavirus, taking the state count to 74. Ahmedabad, its capital, is one of the hotspots in the country with 23 new cases.

On Tuesday, UP confirmed 7 new cases, taking the count in the state to 103. 5 of the new cases were from Bareilly, and one each from Noida and Ghaziabad.

On Tuesday, J&K Government said 6 new positive cases of coronavirus has been recorded, taking their count to 55.
