The number of new COVID-19 cases surged by nearly 260,000 in one day, representing the largest rise since the onset of the pandemic in a single day, said the World Health Organization (WHO).For the first time, the number of new daily infections has gone past a quarter of a million according to WHO, reported BBC. The US, Brazil, India and South Africa recorded the greatest surges in cases. The death toll from coronavirus also increased by 7,360, representing the largest daily rise since May 10.
