New results obtained from a US population have reinforced the association between COVID-19 and cardiovascular disease.

The study collected data on cardiovascular risk factors and outcomes among patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and revealed that these patients had a high rate of existing cardiovascular disease and a very high incidence of subsequent cardiovascular complications. Nearly 40% of the cohort suffered an adverse cardiovascular event. The study also exhibited that elevated troponin T levels at admission pointed to adverse outcomes and may be assist with risk stratification.
