On Sunday, a private hospital in Baghpat’s Baraut town was sealed after it was discovered that a woman with no medical degree performed a caesarean operation that led to worsening of the condition of the mother.

A complaint has been lodged to Baghpat in the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr R K Tandon is the CMO there. A resident of Silana village had alleged that a failed surgery on his wife during delivery led to the worsening of her conditionat Baraut’s Metro Hospital & Trauma Centre.

Arun Kumar said in his complaint that his wife was admitted to the private hospital – Baraut’s Metro Hospital & Trauma Centre for delivery in June. The doctor did the caesarean operation twice on her and then the baby was delivered. His wife’s condition worsened and then he admitted her to a Meerut hospital and later to PGI, Chandigarh. The doctors over there told him that the doctor at the Baraut hospital had messed up with the caesarean surgery and she was some how saved.

Based on the complaint, the CMO ordered an investigation that was conducted by Additional CMO (Baghpat) Dr Deepa Singh. Dr Deepa Singh said that she had completed the inquiry and discovered that the “doctor” who performed the caesarean operation was MA in Economics. They did not get any case sheet from the hospital in this matter. It is a grave issue and immediate action should be taken against the hospital.

CMO Dr Tandon told The Indian Express, that due to such irregularities, he had requested the local administration to seal the hospital. Also, the registration of the hospital is cancelled. They are making a charge sheet against the hospital and then will lodge a criminal FIR against those people who were responsible for the failed surgery.

But the hospital authorities alleged “conspiracy” for sealing the hospital. The manager of the private hospital, Vipin Chauhan claimed that it was true that the woman was admitted to their hospital in June and a woman doctor, capable of performing delicate operations had treated her. Her condition further worsened after the surgery and she was referred to a hospital in Meerut. They did nothing wrong with the patient but the image and reputation of the hospital is being tarnished by a local lawyer, husband of the pregnant woman and a staff member of the CMO for their interests.
